Kerry's James O'Donoghue with Donal Vaughan of Mayo. INPHO

Forwards were very much on top in yesterday's enthralling All-Ireland SFC semi-final between Mayo and Kerry.

1. Brian Kelly (Kerry)

Just did enough to put Cillian O'Connor off when the Mayo forward had the Kerry goal at his mercy and saved well with his feet from Alan Freeman.

2. Tom Cunniffe (Mayo)

Was deployed as a sweeper by James Horan but was more effective in the second-half when pushing forward.

3. Aidan O'Mahony (Kerry)

The Kerry veteran gave a commanding display in the first-half but he wasn't as prominent after the break.

4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)

Conceded 1-3 to James O'Donoghue but Higgins ensured that the Kerry forward got nothing easy.

5. Fionn Fitzgerald (Kerry)

The Kingdom captain got his name on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time.

6. Donal Vaughan (Mayo)

Somewhat subdued in the first-half, Vaughan prospered in the second-half when freed from the defensives shackles and won Mayo's penalty with a trademark forward run.

7. Colm Boyle (Mayo)

Kept Stephen O'Brien and Declan O'Sullivan under wraps and popped up with an inspirational point in the second-half.

8. Seamus O'Shea (Mayo)

Struggled to get into the game in the opening 35 minutes but his perseverance paid off in the second-half when he exerted a bigger influence on proceedings.

9. David Moran (Kerry)

Kicked two superb long range points in the first-half but his performance dipped after the resumption.

10. Michael Geaney (Kerry)

It was a surprise when Eamonn Fitzmaurice called Geaney ashore after just 43 minutes as he had got his hands on plenty of ball up to that point.

11. Aidan O'Shea (Mayo)

With their backs very much against the wall, O'Shea came out fighting after the resumption and inspired Mayo's comeback.

12. Donnchadh Walsh (Kerry)

A high work-rate is the cornerstone of Walsh's approach to the game and he also chipped in with two points.

13. Cillian O'Connor (Mayo)

Mayo lack a marquee forward? O'Connor's virtuoso performance yesterday put paid to that particular theory.

14. Alan Dillon (Mayo)

Answered his critics in the best possible fashion when sending over three valuable points, two of which were top class efforts.

15. James O'Donoghue (Kerry)

Starting the exit door in the face, the opportunistic O'Donoghue came to his side's rescue with a cool finish in the 68th minute.
