Derry have appointed Tom McLean as their new senior hurling team manager while, as expected, Brian McIver is staying on as senior football manager for a third year.

Following a meeting of the Oak Leaf County Board at Owenbeg last night, the following management positions were ratified:

U21 Hurling - Sean McGuckin (Swatragh)
U21 Football - Paul McIver (Ballinderry)
Minor Hurling - Stephen O'Kane (Swatragh)
Minor Football - Damian McErlain (Magherafelt)

On the appointment of McLean as Ger Rogan's successor, chairman John Keenan, noted: "We are delighted to have Tom on board. Tom is an experienced coach and manager who brings a wealth of experience to the position.

"On behalf of all Derry clubs, I want to wish Tom, his management team and the players best of luck for the season ahead."

McLean remarked: "I would like to thank Derry GAA for giving me the opportunity to manage the senior hurling team, and I look forward to the challenge with great enthusiasm.

"I have been part of the Derry hurling setup for the past three years in a coaching capacity, and have a lot of respect for a great group of young men and really enjoy working with them.

"I hope to freshen things up by bringing new faces to both the management team and the panel.

"Sean McGuckin will stay on as the assistant manager.

"I would ask for full support from all Derry clubs, players and supporters to help us to fulfil the potential in Derry hurling.

"Finally, I wish the four teams in the semi-finals of the senior championship the very best of luck and look forward to top class games of hurling."
