HS hurling team of week

August 18, 2014

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week.
Picking our hurling team of the week was as straight-forward as it gets with Conor Lehane the only Cork player to have done himself justice in yesterday's one-sided All-Ireland SHC semi-final.

1. Darren Gleeson (Tipperary)

According to Donal Og Cusack, the Tipp netminder gave "the greatest display of tactical puck-outs ever seen".

2. Paddy Stapleton (Tipperary)

Stapleton put the shackles on the Rebel County's rising star Alan Cadogan who hit just one point from play before being called ashore.

3. James Barry (Tipperary)

One of the finds of the season, the Upperchurch-Drombane man didn't put a foot wrong at the back for Eamon O'Shea's charges.

4. Cathal Barrett (Tipperary)

Cork attacking ace Pat Horgan got little change of the tenacious Barrett.

5. Kieran Bergin (Tipperary)

Had his hands full with Conor Lehane but battled gamely throughout.

6. Brendan Maher (Tipperary)

Kilkenny stand in the way of Maher getting his hands on the Liam McCarthy Cup.

7. Padraic Maher (Tipperary)

At times the sliotar stuck to the wing-back's hands and hurl like a magnet and he gave an exhibition in the half-back line.

8. Shane McGrath (Tipperary)

The Tipp midfield pairing answered their critics when dominating Aidan Walsh and Daniel Kearney.

9. James Woodlock (Tipperary)

Woodlock and McGrath both roamed forward to raise three white flags each.

10. Conor Lehane (Cork)

No finger of blame for Cork's no-show can be pointed in the direction of Lehane who top-scored for his side with four points.

11. Patrick Maher (Tipperary)

Bonner punched holes in the Cork rearguard and created plenty of openings for his forward colleagues.

12. Gearoid Ryan (Tipperary)

Didn't make the scoresheet but worked his socks off for the cause.

13. Noel McGrath (Tipperary)

Shot two points but you get the impression that the Loughmore-Castleiney clubman has plenty more to offer.

14. Seamus Callanan (Tipperary)

A lot of Tipperary's hopes rested on Callanan's shoulders and he delivered in fashion with 2-3 from play off Shane O'Neill.

15. John O'Dwyer (Tipperary)

The accurate Bubbles continued his impressive form when shooting six points.
