Sheehan handed AFL debut

Former Cork star Ciaran Sheehan will make his debut for the Carlton Blues against Gold Coast this Saturday.

Blues coach Mick Malthouse said Sheehan has earned his call-up with consistently good VFL form.

"I think it's a fantastic story," Malthouse said to www.carltonfc.com.au.

"He actually came over with Zac Tuohy (in 2009) and went back (to Ireland) and has come back again and I think that that's meritorious."

23-year-old Sheehan could play in attack, defence or on a wing according to his coach.

His former Rebel team-mates, meanwhile, have sent Sheehan their best wishes via twitter with Daniel Goulding tweeting: 'great news to see Ciaran making his senior debut for @CarltonFC this weekend. A very proud day for the parish #afl #hardwork'.

Colm O'Neill tweeted: 'Delighted for @Gussyman90 making he debut for @CarltonFC this weekend. #outsideoftheleft #MVP'.
