Spare a thought for Cork footballer Ruairi Deane who must watch from the sidelines this Sunday as his team-mates take on Mayo in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final at Croke Park.

The Bantry Blues star ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee after coming on as a blood sub during the Munster SFC final defeat to Kerry and he underwent cruciate knee ligament surgery last Wednesday week under surgeon Tadhg O'Sullivan in Waterford

"The cruciate was fully gone this time so there was no way out of it for me," the player informed The Southern Star.

"Tadhg said the operation was successful so I am happy with that.

|It's about keeping the weight off it now, icing it, resting if for the next three or four weeks. I'll go up to see him then to see how it's coming along.

"The road to recovery started on the day of the operation so everything is focussed now, starting with Colin (Lane) and working with the strength and conditioning coach to get back at it."
