Sammon hopes for Mulholland stay

Galway's Liam Sammon
Liam Sammon is hoping Alan Mulholland will be kept on as Galway senior football manager.

Mulholland is in the final year of a three-year term in charge of the Tribesmen and his reign will end if Kerry get the better of the westerners in Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park.

Former boss Sammon (who managed Galway to their 44th Connacht title in 2008) says the man who led the county to All-Ireland minor and U21 successes in 2007 and 2011 respectively - not to mention their first senior provincial final appearance since 2009 this year - should be given an extension:

"Of course you would hope the current management would continue into 2015," the 1966 All-Ireland medallist states in The Irish Examiner.

"Any time there is change it takes time for players and new management to gel. The current management are doing a very good job.

"This team is evolving. This is an ongoing process. Alan has done a very good job on them. They have brought in a lot of young blood and are developing into a very good team."
