Daly says Dublin didn't score enough

Anthony Daly was ruing Dublin's lack of scoring power after they surrendered their Leinster SHC title to Kilkenny.

The Dubs only managed three second half scores as they crashed to a 12-point defeat at Croke Park.

"1-9 wouldn't win you a minor match hardly," the Dublin manager quipped.

"That was never going to be a winning score and I suppose if you told us that we would get a goal and they would get no goal we would have nearly taken that scenario coming in.

"They were a better team. How we were within four points at half-time is hard to figure but heroic defending from (Alan) Nolan out to Paul (Schutte), Peter (Kelly) and Shane (Durkin) - all six backs I thought."

The Clare man admitted that Dublin's first touch wasn't what it should have been.

"I just couldn't figure out that bit. Our touch looked very good in training right up to the weekend. We played two matches Friday and Sunday and our touch looked sharp, but you have to do it on the day - they (Kilkenny) did it on the day. They were strong and tough and they defended very well. They deserved it.

"We got a lot of hands to the ball but we let it fall. If you let it fall around those lads we know what usually happens. They tackled fierce tigerishly. We didn't match that intensity at all today."

He added: "We just have to get back on the horse again and get back at it and try and recover tomorrow evening and try and put in a big performance in three weeks' time. We don't know who we will be playing or anything yet, but we'll just have to get ourselves back at it."
