Westmeath chairman Sean Sheridan has rejected claims made by John Heslin that some players are waiting up to four months for payment of mileage expenses.

St. Loman's clubman Heslin also claimed in a tweet he posted on Tuesday evening that county players hadn't had access to gym facilities and questioned why the county board was prepared to spend €3.5 million on a new stand at Cusack Park, arguing that the money would be better invested in underage development.

The tweet read: "3.5 million for new stand in cusack park? wmeath players are 4 months w/o expenses and no access to gym. Investing in u-age more beneficial"

Responding to Heslin's claims about unpaid expenses on Midlands 103 yesterday, Sheridan said: "There definitely wouldn't be four months (of a wait). The longest would be two months. Sometimes they (the mileage expenses sheets) come into us in dribs and drabs. We have to have them all in before we can do our accounts.

"Every player involved with Westmeath will get their expenses. I'd be very disappointed with those remarks from John."

The chairman also refuted claims that gym facilities weren't made available to members of Paul Bealin's squad this year, explaining how up to €60,000 had been invested in a gym at the Lake County's new Centre of Excellence in the former Columb Barracks in Mullingar.

"We have a gym which is second to none in Columb Barracks and that is there for Westmeath county players to use. John knows that and every other player in the county knows that it's there," Sheridan added.
