Meath are likely to be without top scorer Michael Newman for Sunday's Leinster semi-final against Kildare after the Kilmainham player suffered a hamstring injury in training.

An All Star nominee last year, Newman returned from groin injury to score a hat trick in his side's quarter-final win over Carlow but suffered a hamstring injury the following Tuesday.

The player has undergone intensive treatment on a daily basis since then but confirmed to hoganstand.com this morning that the Kildare game will come too soon for him.

Newman is the latest addition to a lengthening injury list for Mick O'Dowd's side with Eoghan Harrington and Bryan Menton, both of whom missed the Leinster quarter-final, still doubtful.

Eamon Wallace and Conor Gillespie are both absent with season ending cruciate ligament injuries.
