HS hurling team of the week

June 23, 2014

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week.
We had only one game of hurling this weekend but what a game! Here's our team of the week ...

1. Eoin Murphy (Kilkenny)

Will naturally have been disappointed with the concession of five goals but pulled off some vital saves.

2. Paul Murphy (Kilkenny)

The game ebbed and flowed throughout and Murphy enjoyed some good moments.

3. Ronan Burke (Galway)

The young number three held Richie Power and Mark Kelly scoreless.

4. David Collins (Galway)

Was a driving force behind Galway's late surge.

5. Johnny Coen (Galway)

lost Colin Fennelly for the Kilkenny man's 42nd minute but performed well otherwise.

6. Jackie Tyrell (Kilkenny)

Tyrell had his hands full with Joe Canning but, as you would expect, battled gamely throughout.

7. Iarla Tannian (Galway)

Walter Walsh got little change off the experienced Galway defender.

8. Padraig Walsh (Kilkenny)

Walsh provided ample assistance to his midfield partner Richie Hogan.

9. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

The midfield dynamo held the upperhand in his personal duel with Andy Smith and found the target with four points from play.

10. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)

Reid continued his excellent form this season with a return of 1-8.

11. Joe Canning (Galway)

Answered his critics in the most emphatic fashion an equalising point that drew gasps from the Tullamore crowd.

12. Conor Cooney (Galway)

Cooney's two goals turned the semi-final tie on its head.

13. Colin Fennelly (Kilkenny)

The 24-year-old pick-pocketed Galway for the sum of 1-3.

14. Niall Burke (Galway)

The Galway full-forward contributed 1-2 to his side's cause during an impressive first half.

15. Jonathon Glynn (Galway)

Glynn caused plenty of problems for the Kilkenny rearguard following his half-time introduction and he earned the crucial penalty at the end.
