Hopes that Mark McHugh might return to the Donegal fold for this year's championship were extinguished this morning when the 2012 All-Ireland winner flew out to New York for the summer.

McHugh, who sensationally quit Jim McGuinness' squad on the eve of the championship, will link up with the Donegal club in the Big Apple. Donegal supporters were hoping the versatile star would have a change of heart after starring for Kilcar in their recent Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta success in Moycullen, Co. Galway, but his decision to leave for the States has closed the door on that possibility. Tweet
