Derry defender Chrissy McKaigue admits that it is nice to hear the county being talked about in such high esteem.

After a few years in the GAA wilderness, Derry have taken Division One of the football league by storm and now they are just 70 minutes away from being crowned league champions.

The Oakleafers had their detractors in the last few years, but few can argue with their performances this year and McKaigue is loving it.

"Winning's everything, isn't it," McKaigue told the County Derry Post. "That's what makes it enjoyable. There's a lot of boys on that bus that have put in a long number of years service and never got the recognition.

"Now they're getting the recognition. It's good to see Mark Lynch get the recognition of being one of the best footballers in Ireland. Patsy Bradley, Gerard O'Kane, they're in the top bracket."
