Having already retained the Connacht FBD League and contested the Connacht U21FC final this year, Leitrim football received another shot in the arm on Saturday with the capture of the Connacht MFL title.

Enda Lyons' charges recovered from a 0-3 to 0-9 half-time deficit at Tuam Stadium to beat Galway by 1-7 to 0-9, with Peter Reynolds' goal proving the catalyst for an historic success.

While Leitrim will go into the Connacht MFC with a spring in their step, reigning All-Ireland champions Mayo have a lot of improving to do after ending their Connacht MFL with a 1-11 to 2-9 defeat to Sligo. The defeat at Charlestown was Mayo's fourth in as many games in the competition.
