Sky: we will have a head start over RTE

GAA Director General, Paraic Duffy on Sky News after the announcement
Sky claims it will have "a head start over RTE" with its GAA coverage.

Having this week been awarded the broadcasting rights to 60 GAA matches over the next three championship seasons - including 14 exclusive games each summer - the satellite television giant wasted no time in turning up the heat on terrestrial network RTE.

In addition to the exclusive games, Sky and RTE will do battle for ratings when both cover crucial quarter-finals and semi-finals simultaneously - and the MD of Sky Ireland reckons there will only be one winner:

"We believe that the quality of coverage that we will be able to bring to the quarter-finals and semi-finals will give us a head start over RTE," John Buckley said on Newstalk.

"Sky Sports customers expect the best from us and I think out partnership with the GAA is going to allow us to bring Sky Sports treatment to the 20 games, right across the season.

"For the first time ever Sky customers are going to be able to watch live GAA games on the go through the Sky Go App.

"This is obviously a massive news piece, it's a big move for the GAA. We think it is going to be really good for the GAA."
