Tommy Walsh's younger brother, Padraic, is one of four newcomers included in the Kilkenny team for tomorrow's Allianz Hurling League trip to Ennis.
The Tullaroan youngster makes his debut in midfield alongside Cillian Buckley. The other debutants are full backs Michael Walsh and Brian Kennedy, and wing back Joey Holden.
Newly-appointed captain Lester Ryan is named at centre back, while John Joe Farrell and Mark Kelly are selected in the full forward line alongside Walter Walsh after impressing in the Walsh Cup. There are just six survivors from the team that lost last year's All-Ireland quarter-final to Cork - Paul Murphy, Cillian Buckley, Henry Shefflin, Eoin Larkin, Colin Fennelly and Walter Walsh.
Kilkenny (SH v Clare): D Herity; C Fogarty, M Walsh, B Kennedy; J Holden, L Ryan, P Murphy; C Buckley, P Walsh; H Shefflin, C Fennelly, E Larkin; JJ Farrell, M Kelly, W Walsh.
