HS football team of the week

January 13, 2014

The hoganstand.com football team of the week.
It's football team of the week time again.

1. Donal O'Sullivan (NUIG)

O'Sullivan finished on the losing side on Friday (Mayo) and Sunday (Roscommon) but the margin of defeats for his team would have been greater were it not for his heroics.

2. Aongus Tierney (Galway)

Tierney impressed for the Tribesmen in the FBD League defeat to Leitrim and was involved in the build-up to Ian Burke's goal.

3. Rory Dunne (Cavan)

The Breffni County full-back makes the cut for the second week in a row after putting in a 'man-of-the-match' display against Down.

4. Jack Sharkey (Roscommon)

Sharkey and his Roscommon defensive colleagues were successful in limiting the impact of the NUI Galway attack.

5. Mark Shields (Armagh)

Impressive half-back Shields caught the eye for Armagh against Donegal in the Athletic Grounds and chipped in with a point for good measure.

6. Davy Byrne (DCU)

Ballymun Kickhams clubman Byrne played an instrumental role in the students shock win over the All-Ireland champions and his 43rd minute goal helped swing the tie in their favour.

7. Emmet Bolton (Kildare)

The experienced defender returned to the Lilywhite jersey and was his usual commanding self in the six point win over Carlow.

8. Eoin O'Connor (DCU)

Along with midfield partner and fellow Louth man Brian Donnelly, O'Connor helped lay the foundations for DCU's 3-8 to 0-16 success over Dublin.

9. John Heslin (UCD)

Westmeath's Heslin helped himself to 1-5 - four points from play - as UCD advanced to the last four of the O'Byrne Cup with a two point win over Laois at Portarlington.

10. Jack McCarron (Monaghan)

McCarron accounted for 1-4 of the Farney County's final tally as the Ulster champions proved too strong for St Mary's College in Clones.

11. James Kielt (Derry)

Like full-back Dunne, Kielt is selected for a second successive week as he continued his fine early season form with four points from play against Pete McGrath's Fermanagh side.

12. PJ Lavery (Tyrone)

Lavery enjoyed a senior debut to remember when scoring 1-2 against Queen's.

13. Colm McFadden (Donegal)

McFadden's 62nd minute goal sent Jim McGuinness' side on the road to victory against Armagh in the Athletic Grounds.

14. Stephen Bray (Meath)

Bray, and his younger brother David, caused plenty of headaches for the Wicklow defence and the 2007 All Star notched 1-1 for the Royals.

15.Daniel Goudling (Cork)

Goulding enjoyed a profitable afternoon against UL when hitting the students for 2-5.
