HS hurling team of the week

June 17, 2013

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week.
Dublin, Galway, Laois, Down and Wexford are represented on our hurling team of the week.

1. Gary Maguire (Dublin)

Kept a clean sheet - making one brilliant intervention to deny Gareth Sinnott - in Dublin's Leinster SHC quarter-final replay win over Wexford.

2. Fergal Moore (Galway)

The Turloughmore man was as steady as ever in what was his first appearance for the Tribesmen since he was knocked out in the Allianz League semi-final against Kilkenny.

3. Peter Kelly (Dublin)

Wexford young gun Jack Guiney got little change out of the full back, who was one of Dublin's star performers in Parnell Park.

4. Brian Stapleton (Laois)

Stapleton had a very good game on Conor Cooney as Laois came within a whisker of shocking Galway.

5. Stephen Hiney (Dublin)

The experienced Ballyboden/St. Enda's defender played his best game for some time for Dublin against Wexford.

6. Matthew Whelan (Laois)

The captain was immense against Galway, decorating a memorable performance with 0-5, 0-4 of which came from long-range frees.

7. Conor Woods (Down)

Woods impressed again for Down in their Ulster SHC quarter-final victory over Armagh, controlling the game from centre back and getting on the scoresheet from a '65.

8. Johnny McCaffrey (Dublin)

The Lucan Sarsfields clubman put in a solid shift as Dublin dominated the midfield exchanges against Wexford.

9. Donal Hughes (Down)

Posted 0-4 from play in a man of the match display against Armagh.

10. Gareth Sinnott (Wexford)

The scorer of 0-2, Sinnott was Wexford's most threatening forward on a day when they were forced to give second best to the Dubs.

11. Conal Keaney (Dublin)

Back in his best position of centre forward after a stint in defence, Keaney was Dublin's star performer against Wexford. Not only did he dominate Lee Chin in the aerial exchanges, he chipped in with 0-2 and set up the game's only goal for Paul Ryan.

12. Zane Keenan (Laois)

The Camross sharpshooter maintained his excellent form against Galway by scoring 0-3 off the returning Shane Kavanagh.

13. Paul Ryan (Dublin)

Ryan was Dublin's top-scorer in their victory over Wexford with a haul of 1-9, which included the game's only goal.

14. Joe Canning (Galway)

The Tribesmen could conceivably have lost to Laois if it wasn't for their talisman who kept the scoreboard operator busy once again with 0-11 (0-7 from frees).

15. James Coyle (Down)

The corner forward bagged 1-3 for Down at Pairc Esler as they set up an Ulster SHC semi-final against Derry.
