Hill 16 booing condemned

Hill 16 and its Dublin supporters
Former Westmeath chairman Seamus O Faolain has described the booing by some Dublin supporters on Hill 16 when a player from an opposing team is taking a free as "despicable".

O Faolain, who served the chairman's role for over 20 years and is currently Westmeath's delegate to Central Council, condemned the behaviour at a county board meeting last week. He made his comments after Westmeath's John Heslin was booed and jeered as he took frees into the Hill 16 end of Croke Park during the Lake County's recent Leinster SFC quarter-final defeat to the Dubs.

"It has no place in (GAA) headquarters or any pitch in the country," O Faolain is quoted as saying in the Westmeath Examiner.

"A man should be allowed to take a free and concentrate on it without having to put up with that hissing and booing."
