HS hurling team of the week

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week
It was the busiest weekend so far of the hurling championship and there were plenty of contenders for our Team of the Week.

1. Nickie Quaid (Limerick)

Last year's All Star nominee kept the Tipperary attack at bay in the first half by producing two terrific saves to deny Seamus Callanan and Pa Bourke.

2. Mickey Cahill (Tipperary)

One of the few bright spots for Tipperary was Cahill's performance in the full back line.

3. Richie McCarthy (Limerick)

The full back produced a dominant display on the edge of the square as he helped the Treaty County to their first Munster SHC victory since 2007.

4. Conor Fogarty (Kilkenny)

Introduced for the injured Jackie Tyrrell after only six minutes, Fogarty had a superb game on Offaly dangerman Shane Dooley, who failed to score from play.

5. Michael Carton (Dublin)

Scored two points from play in Dublin's draw with Wexford on Slaneyside.

6. Wayne McNamara (Limerick)

The Adare clubman excelled at the heart of the Limerick defence, keeping the usually busy Patrick 'Bonnar' Maher quiet in the process.

7. Kieran Joyce (Kilkenny)

The Rower-Inistioge man received the RTE Man of the Match award after a magnificent display in Tullamore. He cut out countless Offaly attacks and also kept his marker Ciaran Slevin - who was replaced in the 52nd minute - scoreless.

8. Donal O'Grady (Limerick)

The captain scored three inspirational points on his return from a collarbone injury.

9. Garret Sinnott (Wexford)

Lined out at wing forward in Wexford Park, we've accommodated him at midfield after his four-point haul against the Dubs.

10. John O'Dwyer (Tipperary)

Few subs will make the same impact as the championship debutant did against Limerick. Hit 1-3 within 15 minutes of his introduction at half-time, and certainly didn't deserve to finish on the losing side.

11. Colin Egan (Offaly)

Along with Joe Bergin, the Belmont clubman caused the Kilkenny defence plenty of problems. Egan bagged 1-2 in an impressive championship outing.

12. Jack Guiney (Wexford)

A late call-up to the Wexford team in place of the unwell Paul Morris, the U21 star scored the goal that brought his side back into the game and finished with a personal tally of 1-8.

13. Shane Nolan (Kerry)

Not many players score 1-9 and end up on the losing side, but that's the hand the Kingdom star was dealt in Saturday's Christy Ring Cup final.

14. Declan Hannon (Limerick)

The former Ard Scoil Ris ace was Limerick's top-scorer against Tipperary with 0-9 (0-6 from placed balls). His sideline cut also led to Seanie Tobin's 19th minute goal.

15. Gareth 'Magic' Johnson (Down)

The big full forward secured his place in the annals of Down hurling by grabbing 2-1 - including a last-minute winning goal - in the Ardsmen's maiden Ring Cup success.
