Plans for gaelic games merger in the pipeline

GAA President Liam O'Neill praised Cavan hurling at the All-Stars in Shanghai last week.
GAA President Liam O'Neill has revealed that the association has started the process to bring all gaelic games under the one umbrella.
Ladies football, camogie, handball and rounders currently operate as different entities but O'Neill says plans are afoot to unite all sports and is excited about the opportunities that such a move would present.
"The value of it is that we would have a much bigger, stronger unit where all our games would be developed in a much more significant way," O'Neill explained to the Irish Independent.
"If we have a situation where every GAA unit had the right to field a handball team, we could have potentially 2,000 handball teams where we have only 200 at the moment.
"If every club in the organisation, home and abroad, bought a rounders' bat we would have 2,500 rounders teams whereas we have 22 rounders clubs at the moment.
"The potential for the development here is enormous."
He added: "An opportunity has presented itself to the organisation that up to now did not exist, I think it's important that we seize it. I wouldn't like to put a date on it, but it could happen sooner than you think."
