Kilkenny have been boosted by the news that Henry Shefflin has resumed light training.

Following yesterday's Allianz Hurling League final win over Tipperary, it was confirmed that the nine-time All-Ireland winner is back jogging for the first time since he suffered broken bones in his foot during Ballyhale Shamrocks' Leinster club SHC semi-final clash with Oulart-The-Ballagh last November.

Shefflin is expected to return to full training soon, but faces a race against time to be fit for the All-Ireland champions' Leinster SHC quarter-final against Offaly on June 9. The veteran forward hasn't missed a championship game since making his debut in 1999.

"I don't know when he'll be back, it depends on how he reacts to the physio, but he is doing some work and is making good progress," Kilkenny selector Michael Dempsey told the Irish Daily Star.

"Obviously with the injury, it's too early to say. It will depend on how he reacts to the training, how he gets on and that's impossible to say."
