Aidan Cassidy is facing a race against time to be fit for Tyrone's Ulster SFC quarter-final against Donegal on May 26.
The midfielder failed to finish last Sunday's Allianz Football League final defeat to Dublin after picking up an ankle injury late in the game.
"Aidan went for an x-ray on Monday morning and there's nothing broken, but there is ligament damage," Tyrone trainer Fergal McCann confirmed to the Irish Daily Star.
"He did say that when he came down on the ground, he heard a bit of a crunching noise, so it is definitely ligament-based. Time is definitely going to be against Aidan, but he's positive at the minute and he's going to try to do whatever he needs to do to get back."
McCann said the news regarding team captain Stephen O'Neill - who suffered a freak ankle injury in the warm-up at Croke Park - is better.
"He's still working with the medical team, but we're hopeful that it's maybe not as bad as we first thought."
