Harte expects O'Neill back for Donegal

Stephen O'Neill receives the Ulster GAA Writers Award from UGAAWA Chairman John Martin and Kieran Kenneday of O'Neill's
Sportswear.
Mickey Harte is confident Stephen O'Neill will be fit to face Donegal on May 26th.

The Clann na Gael attacker missed Sunday's league final against Dublin after sustaining a freak ankle injury during the pre-match warm-up. But his manager is optimistic that the 2005 Footballer of the Year will be back in a couple of weeks:

"Stevie accidentally went over on his ankle at the end of the warm-up," Harte confirms in The Irish News.

"A few balls were lying on the floor of the warm-up area and he just got a nudge and he stepped backwards and the foot he went to correct himself with stood on the ball.

"Down he went. He could not believe it. Of all the things that could have happened.

"After he got the injury, the physio tried to test it out and got him to do some exercises and it was niggling him a bit.

"There was some difficulty in the joint of the ankle. Hopefully it's not too serious and that a few weeks will clear it up.

"At the moment, we're hoping that it should be okay in a couple of weeks' time.

"He's in such good form and he's so important to the team, so we will do all we can to get him right as quickly as possible."
