Breen concedes that Leitrim have no hope of promotion

Leitrim manager Barney Breen
Barney Breen admitted after the defeat to Offaly that Leitrim will be staying in Division Four.

Hopes were high after the team's FBD Connacht league heroics that they might be good enough to move into Division Three but three defeats in their first four league games have put paid to any such optimism:

"We've no excuses, simple as that," the co-manager told the Leitrim Observer. "We just weren't good enough on the day and we just didn't look up for it.

"Promotion hopes are gone now. That's it. We're just going to have to concentrate on the championship.

"It was a big ask after losing the first two games, but we felt that we had turned the tide.

"The game was there for the taking. We felt we were in a good position at half time. It just didn't happen and Offaly pipped us in the end.

"I definitely felt it was two points lost. There are no excuses. We made too many handling errors, basic errors, schoolboy errors."
