Pairc Tailteann upgrade depends on funding

The stand at Pairc Tailteann Navan
Meath are hoping to secure funding to proceed with the development of a new stand at Pairc Tailteann.
The ageing Navan venue's capacity was reduced to just 10,000 by the Slattery Report this year, but Royal County chiefs are hoping the construction of a new 5,000-capacity stand, to replace the existing stand, will help to make it one of the premier GAA grounds in Leinster again.
The planned redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann would cost in the region of €5 million, and Meath secretary Cyril Creavin accepts there is no guarantee the Meath county board will receive the funding necessary in the current economic climate to proceed with the project.
"Our figures are in with the infrastructure crowd and there might be money coming from that," he told the Irish Daily Star.
"The stand that's there is obsolete. You are nearly throwing money away by trying to upgrade it a bit. It's really too steep and the steps are fairly high. We have no commitment go from either national or Leinster. I know funds are low everywhere.
"You are looking at in around €5 million. Look what they did below in Tullamore, and even though they got a reasonable deal, I think was in around €5 million. Down around McHale Park (Castlebar), that was mega money."
