Hurling/Shinty International: Ireland overpower Scotland

27 October 2012
Ireland claimed a fourth consecutive Hurling/Shinty International after a comprehensive win over Scotland at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday afternoon.

Ireland 8-11 (51)
Scotland 4-3 (23)

The hosts produced a blistering performance in the opening half, bombarding the Scotland 'keeper Stewart MacKintosh and his defense with five goals.

A hat-trick from Offaly star Shane Dooley and one each from the stick of Patrick Maher and Brendan Murtagh in a matter of 10 minutes had Ireland in command at half time 5-6 (31) to 1-2 (5). Finlay Macrae netted the visitors only goal in the first half following a string of saves from 'keeper Bernard Rochford.

Antrim's Barry McFall widened the margin to 27 points after the break with a sixth goal before Kevin Bartlett hit the net at the opposite end from a difficult angle.

Both sides had their fair share of possession in the second half. Bartlett and Murtagh both got their second goal of the game.

Seamus Callanan, who was called up to the squad as a replacement for the unavailable Pat Horgan buried to the net for an eight 5-pointer for Ireland.

An injury-time goal for Scotland from Keith Macrae was a mere consolation as Ireland ran out as comfortable 28-point winners.
