Wicklow SHC final: Dunne seals three-in-a-row
October 22, 2012
Glenealy 1-11
Carnew 0-10
Eoin Dunne's goal four minutes from the end secured a three-in-a-row of Wicklow SHC titles for Glenealy at Aughrim yesterday.
In what was a very entertaining final, the sides had been level seven times before wing forward Dunne set the holders up for victory. With their long-serving full forward Don Hyland in fine scoring form, Carnew held a slender 0-7 to 0-6 lead at the interval.
But Glenealy, who had a greater spread of scorers, hit back to level four times after restart. Wayne O'Gorman then edged them into a 0-11 to 0-10 lead before corner back Mark Collins and Hyland both missed chances to restore parity.
And Carnew were made to pay for those misses when Dunne sent a ground shot to the net for the game's decisive score.
