Kildare SHC final: Confey upset the odds
October 08, 2012
Confey and Kildare star Paul Divilly
Confey 1-16
Celbridge 0-14
Celbridge's dreams of a four-in-a-row of Kildare SHC title triumphs lie in tatters after Confey pulled off a surprise victory in yesterday's final at St. Conleth's Park, Newbridge.
The men from the outskirts of Leixlip threw down the gauntlet to the champions inside the first minute when John O'Neill scored the only goal. They went on to lead by 1-9 to 0-6 at the interval and succeeded in keeping Celbridge at arm's length for the entire second half, with the champions never getting any closer than four points.
Accurate free-taker Paul Divilly top-scored for the winners with 0-8, while Daragh Nolan shot 0-5 from play.
