Colm Boyle appears to have lost his race to be fit for the All-Ireland final.

The No.7 has not recovered sufficiently enough from a virus to take his place in the Connacht champions' starting XV for Sunday's decider against Donegal, according to The Connaught Telegraph.

The player has made a massive effort to get himself back into the frame but will not have enough energy to play the full 70 minutes at Croke Park.

Belmullet's Chris Barrett and Castlebar's Richie Feeney are favourites to replace the Davitts man in James Horan's team.

Meanwhile, Horan is confident that his other wing back, Lee Keegan, will be able to play despite suffering a dislocated finger during the semi-final defeat of Dublin:

"Lee is still a little bit sore, but he's back running at full tilt and it's just a matter of time before his finger heals completely. Lee's on track. It was a dislocation and the bone came through the finger. It was a sore event but no bother to Lee. He hasn't done any ball work, just straight-line running."
