Mayo captain Andy Moran underwent surgery to repair his torn cruciate knee ligament at the Santry Sports Clinic in Dublin yesterday.

The All Star full forward suffered the injury in last month's All-Ireland quarter-final victory over Down and missed last Sunday's semi-final win over Dublin. He will also sit out the All-Ireland final against Donegal on Sunday, September 23.

Moran, who came back from a broken leg at the start of this season, has targeted the latter stages of next year's Allianz League as his return date. He was replaced by Enda Varley - who was forced off early in the second half after taking a blow to the nose - for the dramatic win over Dublin. Tweet
