Lar Corbett insisted that the bizarre tactic which saw him deployed to follow Kilkenny defender Tommy Walsh wasn't a complete failure.

Corbett, who terrorised the Cats with a hat-trick of goals in the 2010 All-Ireland final, failed to score as Tipperary suffered their biggest championship defeat since 1897.

"They (Kilkenny) came with a game plan and so did we. What we were doing was working up to half-time," he said.

"They got the goals and then threw on the points after that. As regards who was right and who was wrong, I suppose when you win you have to say that maybe their system was a bit better than ours.

"As regards who was right and who was wrong, I suppose when you win you have to say that maybe their system was a bit better than ours. That was a system Kilkenny went with, and you just have to say that maybe their system was a bit better than ours.

"It's a tactic that they use. It's up to us to counteract it and what have we to say about it? What we had to say about it brought us a long way in the first half. We believed in the system and it was working for us.

"I suppose you had Tommy (Walsh) on a yellow card. By the time we finished up Jackie (Tyrrell) was on a yellow and I was on a yellow. Like, that suited us.

"The boys were getting onto breaking ball and a goal chance came off it. There were a few chances that came off it and that was good. The system we were using. I believe and we believe, was good for us.

"But the whole thing changed after half-time. Goals win games and they got the goals. If you looka t the last four outing between these two teams, whoever gets the goals win."
