Hyland: Seanie's no All Star

Seanie Johnston of Kildare with Ronan Flanagan of Cavan at Breffni Park
Cavan boss Terry Hyland took a swipe at the "circus" surrounding Seanie Johnston's controversial transfer to Kildare after yesterday's All-Ireland qualifier between the two counties.

And he dismissed the notion that the former Cavan captain could be the final piece in Kieran McGeeney's jigsaw when saying: "Good luck to Seanie, he's a good footballer, but he's not an All Star.

"And good luck to Kildare, they have a team that's progressing but they haven't won any All-Irelands yet."

He continued: "It has been a circus and it has been crazy stuff all week. Even in Cavan, there were cameras running here and there. It gets in lads' heads and it was a distraction all week. We can't do any more about that. It was more of a media circus than anything.

"I presume Seanie has made his decision, so if there are any other decisions to be made, it's him that has to make them."

Hyland made no attempt to hide his disappointment at the Breffni County's display.

"We came prepared, but we didn't come prepared to get a hiding like we got out there. I thought our lads did try hard, but we didn't convert our chances. When you start kicking wide after wide and the ball drops short, the confidence goes out of fellas and I think that's what happened."
