Flanagan: more to Donegal than defending

Cavan's Ronan Flanagan
Ronan Flanagan believes Cavan will need to focus just as much on Donegal's attack as their defence in Sunday's Ulster SFC preliminary round tie.

The reigning Ulster champions have a reputation for being ultra-defensive, but after watching them dismantle Cavan in last year's Ulster SFC from the Kingspan Breffni Park stand (he was injured at the time), he's aware of just how dangerous they can be up front.

"Donegal look very composed last year and very good in attack as well as defence - people forgot about their attack and concentrated too much on their defence," the forward -turned-defender said in The Irish News.

"At the end of the day you have to put the ball over the bar and teams were forgetting about that and Donegal were beating them. People were talking about Donegal's defence all the time, but they can't score points from their defence - you have to concentrate on their attackers too.

"As we know from last year, Donegal are tough opposition - you don't go the whole way to the All-Ireland semi-final if you're not."
