Doyle not looking beyond Offaly

Kildare's John Doyle
Kildare captain Johnny Doyle is adamant that they won't be taking Offaly for granted.

The Lilywhites are many people's 'dark horses' to lift the All-Ireland title this year, but Doyle won't hear of any such talk.

The Allenwood clubman heads into his 13th season with Kildare and he knows that it would be detrimental to their title hopes, if they looked beyond the first game against Offaly.

Since Kildare's league final win over Tyrone, they have been hyped up even further, but Doyle stressed that the players were taking no notice of such talk.

"Obviously nobody is getting too carried away. It was only April, but it was nice to win the competition," Doyle admitted to the Kildare Nationalist.

"You would only take it with caution though, the football only starts from here on in and it's nothing to be getting excited about.

Offaly is Offaly, it's a local derby. Down through the years Offaly have always risen their game against Kildare and we expect it to be very, very tough. We'll be happy when the referee blows the final whistle if we have one point to spare, that's all it has to be."
