CHC throws Nenagh VS out of All-Ireland series

April 17, 2012
The Central Hearing Committee have disqualified Nenagh VS from the the All-Ireland VS senior hurling championship following an incident in the semi-final against St Fergal's Rathdowney.

The two schools contested a re-fixed All-Ireland semi-final in Templetuohy last month and the Tipperary side were leading by 12-points when an incident occurred which saw a Rathdowney player being removed to hospital by ambulance. The match was then abandoned.

The CCC of Comhairle Iarbhunscoileanna charged Nenagh VS with: "Misconduct which is considered to have discredited the Association".

Nenagh did not accept the charge but the CHC decided after considering all the evidence, that the charge was proven and imposed the penalty of disqualification from this year's All-Ireland Vocational Schools Senior Hurling 'A' Championship.

The match had already been abandoned once before when a waterlogged pitch saw the game called to an early finish at a time when St Fergal's were ahead.

St Brigid's Loughrea are awaiting their final opponents, but with the possibility of Nenagh VS appealing the CHC verdict to the Central Appeals Committee or even the DRA, this saga could still have some distance to run.

Croke Park have said that the disciplinary process has still to run its full course and it is believed that St Fergal's may also have charges to answer.
