Munster U21FC: Cox leads Kingdom rout of Waterford
March 29, 2012
Kerry 4-26
Waterford 1-4
Listowel's Conor Cox bagged 1-7 as Kerry set up a Cadbury Munster U21FC final showdown with Cork after the easiest of victories over Waterford in Tralee last night.
The game was over as a contest by half-time when Eamonn Fitzmaurice's men led 4-12 to 0-2 with all four of their goals coming in a devastating second quarter. With James Walsh dominant at midfield, Kerry led by 0-5 to 0-1 midway through the first half, but then their full forward line of Ian Galvin, Cox and Kieran Hurley cut loose.
All three found the net, as did Stephen O'Brien, to leave the visitors shell-shocked.
The Kingdom resumed with eight unanswered points from Cox, Hurley, Mark Reen and Shane O'Carroll to stretch their advantage to 4-19 to 0-2 after 40 minutes. Eanna O'Connor came off the bench to kick three points before Paul Power finally ended Waterford's scoring drought from a free in the 48th minute. And Blake O'Connor managed a consolation goal five minutes later as the hosts eased up.
