Former Meath keeper David Gallagher plays outfield for his club St. Peter's Dunboyne
The 31-year-old Dunboyne clubman, who kept goal for Ireland in the International Rules series three years ago, is believed to have accepted an invitation to train with the squad ahead of the 2012 campaign. With Brendan Murphy expected to retire from inter-county football, the number one jersey will be up for grabs and the experienced Gallagher could make it his own.
Gallagher - who plays full back for his club - could find himself in competition with another former 'keeper, Paddy O'Rourke, who played as a forward this year.
Meanwhile, Meath manager Seamus McEnaney hasn't ruled out a playing role for Graham Geraghty next year, despite the fact that he will be part of the management team.
He told hoganstand.com: "Graham is carrying an injury at the moment and if his rehabilitation goes well, there is no reason why he can't play as well as selecting next year." Tweet
