Hurling foreign, according to NI textbook

Hurling is a foreign sport
Hurling is described as a foreign sport in a textbook for GCSE students in Northern Ireland.

The book - GCSE Learning For Life and Work for CCEA - lists hurling alongside Aussie Rules and baseball as sports that "originally came from different countries and are played here."

Sinn Fein's Barry McElduff says in The Irish News: "Try telling people in the Glens of Antrim, Carrickmore or Dungannon that hurling is a foreign sport and you'd be laughed off the pitch.

"It's so intrinsically Irish and Gaelic that it offends people's sensitivities to be described in that way.

"People should be more sensitive and conscious of terminology."
