McGovern assailant released without charge

September 13, 2011
The footballer accused of assaulting Mark McGovern during a San Francisco SFC game on June 25 last has been released by police without charge.

Patrick Power, who was issued with a 96-week suspension by the San Francisco county board after the incident which left McGovern unconscious and in a coma for five weeks, was arrested by police last Thursday on suspension of battery that caused serious bodily injury to the Fermanagh native. However, he was released over the weekend with police saying they hadn't enough evidence to charge him.

According to police, Power was overheard saying to a motionless McGovern, "You won't get up from that."

McGovern's medical bills have run to in excess of $1 million.
