Bookies offer €10k fund for Cluxton-McAteer bout

April 06, 2011
Bookmakers Paddy Power have offered a five-figure prize fund for a charity boxing match between former Ireland international footballer Jason McAteer and Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton.

The bookie's offer has been made in writing to both sportsmen after their altercation in a charity soccer match at Morton Stadium last Sunday, which saw both men red-carded.

Should both parties agree to the boxing match it will take place as the curtain raiser to an event at the National Stadium in Dublin. The fight will take place over three, three minute rounds with the winner being decided by an expert judging panel or knock out. €10,000 will be donated a charity of the winners selection.

Spokesman Paddy Power said, "We're giving both the lads the opportunity to roll their sleeves up and settle this like men. Along with the €10,000 prize fund any profit we make from betting on the fight will also be donated to charity."

Should the fight take place, Cluxton has been installed as the hot 1/5 favourite to win the fight, with McAteer an unconsidered 3/1 outsider.
