McEneaney favourite for Farney job

Monaghan manager Eamonn McEneaney
Eamonn McEneaney is expected to be appointed as Monaghan's new football manager next Monday night.

The former Louth boss has been interviewed alongside fellow candidates Bernie Murray and Mick O'Dowd in recent days, and is the hot favourite to succeed his namesake Seamus McEnaney in the role. The outgoing manager was also nominated, but could not be persuaded to return to the job he left in acrimonious circumstances a few weeks earlier.

'Banty' could yet be installed as Meath's new manager after being nominated to replace Eamonn O'Brien. It is thought he will retain the services of Paul Grimley and Martin McElkennon if he is appointed as the Royals' first 'outside' manager.

Meanwhile, McEnaney has urged Monaghan's long-serving stars to give it another year.

"I have been a lot of the Monaghan championship games over the last few weeks and some of the best performances came from Damien Freeman, JP Mone and Dermot McArdle," he said.

"These guys are still at the top of their game and if they're well managed I have no doubt they have big contributions to make for Monaghan in 2011."
