Legendary St. Jarlath's coach passes away

September 14, 2010
One of the most successful coaches in the Hogan Cup's 57-year history has died.

Tributes have been pouring in for Fr Oliver Hughes, who was synonymous with the second level competition's most successful team - St. Jarlath's College, Tuam - who passed away today. Fr Ollie was involved with St. Jarlath's teams for 30 years, during which time he coached some of the top footballers in Connacht, including Padraic Joyce and Michael Meehan.

The Galway nursery has won the Hogan Cup a record 12 times and Fr Ollie masterminded several of those successes, including the most recent in 2002 when Michael Meehan was captain.
