Kevin Nugent, a member of last year's Armagh minor All-Ireland team, is in hospital recovering from injuries caused by a vicious assault in a club game at the weekend.

The 19-year-old Maghery defender underwent extensive surgery yesterday after being attacked and knocked unconscious in a club game against Cullaville on Sunday, which resulted in the player suffering horrific facial injuries which are to prevent him from eating solid foods for four months.

The attack, which occurred in the final moments of the game, caused Nugent to suffer a broken chin, broken jaw, split lower gum, and have all his lower teeth displaced and part of his lower jaw dislodged.

Armagh's disciplinary authority, the CCC, is in the process of launching an investigation into the incident and will seek to establish the facts surrounding the incident to quickly identify who was responsible.
