Dublin hurling star, and school teacher, Shane Ryan, was in the GAA Museum earlier checking out the GAA Museum and Croke Park for a School Tour.
The Naomh Mearnog club man and Artane primary school teacher visited the GAA Museum with a number of children from the locality to check all that the museum has to offer primary schools.
Whilst in the GAA Museum, Ryan, who recently switched codes from football to hurling for Dublin, recalled his previous pursuits for the blue and navy, but for now, he is looking forward to the upcoming league match between the Dublin hurlers and their Kilkenny counterparts at the weekend.
Speaking at the GAA Museum earlier today, Ryan said, "I've always loved coming to Croke Park, be it as a player or a spectator, and it's great to be able to come along to the GAA Museum in the stadium. Not only do you get a better picture of the full history of the Association and its games, but you also can appreciate the great games and great occasions that have been held in this historic stadium down through the years."
Since opening in 1998 the GAA Museum has developed into one of the country's top tourist attractions. Hands-on history workshops, guided tours and interactive areas offer students the chance to learn all about the birth and growth of the GAA at home and abroad and its unique role in the national movement and cultural revival in Ireland.
A class visit to the GAA Museum will bring to life the history, players and matches which have given GAA fans of all ages countless memories. Primary schools can avail of a range of museum activity sheets and a Cú Chulainn hands-on history workshop. The Croke Park Stadium Tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most historic and modern sporting arenas in the world. Tour guides bring to life the history, magic and excitement of Croke Park by guiding pupils through the dressing rooms, warm-up area, player's tunnel and of course, pitch side!
The GAA Museum is currently undergoing a facelift, and next month will unveil a new temporary exhibition area, a discovery learning space and a magnificent trophy room. Also, the museum's popular interactive games area will receive a significant upgrade using the latest technology for GAA fans to test their hurling and football skills. In the meantime, the GAA Museum is still open to visitors.
