Galway Hurling Club Boston
March 16, 2010
The Galway Hurling Club of Boston is the oldest hurling club in America celebrating 100 years in 2010. Early years saw the club grow and success came infrequently. In 1959 with the founding of the North American County Board under Croke Park control, The Galway Hurling Club of Boston thrived on and off the field as both a social outlet and a successful hurling team. Many members and players have spent time with the club, some for short summer stints others have adopted the club in place of their home towns and villages back in Ireland. Indeed the Club provides important sports, cultural and networking benefits that are vital living abroad, it is the clubs members that provide this with hurling as the pivot point.
We are inviting all members here in the US and back in Ireland who are or have been associated with the club to support us in this our centenary year. Many of you may have hurled and worked in Boston for the summer with the club and now we are asking to consider a return of sorts in any way that you can. This may be by way of a donation, sending on hurleys, jerseys, spreading the good word to players who may want to come to the US to hurl or maybe join us here in Boston in October for our Anniversary Banquet. We have members and players for all counties in Ireland and look forward to your support for this year and many more to come. Summer Hurlers always welcome.
