Owens won't pressure Hurney return

Waterford football manager John Owens has said he will give Gary Hurney all the time he needs to make a decision on his inter-county plans for the future.
Hurney, who had opted to play for the county's hurlers at the start of the season, recently withdrew himself from Davy Fitzgerald panel and speculation now is that the dual star will make a return to the Deise footballers, who he has been a key figure for in recent years.
"I was just made aware of Gary's withdrawal over the weekend. I think he will want a bit of time now to make a decision on where he wants to go," said Owens.
"Certainly he'd be a very good addition if he was available and we're definitely going to leave the door open for him to come on board if he wants. But I think what Gary needs is time and it would be wrong to pressurise him into making a decision on his future."
If Hurney were to decide to play under Owens now, it would be a major boost to the team's chances of promotion from Division Four after their recent win against Limerick which put the joint-top along with Clare and Wicklow.
