Mackey still hopeful of promotion

Cavan's Cian Mackey
Cavan attacker Cian Mackey lauded the team's performance against Wexford last Saturday night which has eased the relegation worries from Division Three, as well as the pressure on team manager Tommy Carr.

The Breffni men produced a display which contrasted to the weekend's previous defeat to Louth by putting up 0-17, all of which came from play bar a Gareth Smith '45', on Jason Ryan's team to move themselves back into contention for promotion.

"I think any team in any division would be delighted to score 16 points from play," said Mackey.

"We have had our critics, and rightly so, but I think we have answered a few of them now.

"The goal now is to do the same the next day and keep our sights on promotion and leave any talk of the championship for another day."

Cavan travel to Markievicz Park this Sunday, where a win over Sligo would set them up nicely for the push back to the second tier ahead of their last two games at home against Offaly and strugglers Fermanagh, respectively.
