Improved display delights Gilroy

Pat Gilroy believes Dublin played a lot better than they had in their previous games against Monaghan on Saturday night.

"We were much happier with the performance, it was a lot better than the last few," he said after the Dubs made it four wins from four in Division 1 of the NFL.

"The guys out the field were doing a hell of a lot of work to create opportunities and the ball going in was a lot better than last week. In every game, we have got good work-rate but we have also made a lot of mistakes so there's still a job to do. We had two or three goal chances but we just over-passed the ball.

"But it is March and fellas are going to make those mistakes. But you can't fault their effort."

The defeat leaves Monaghan favourites to make an instant return to Division 2, but Seamus McEnaney isn't give up hope just yet.

"We want to stay in Division 1," he declared.

"I think we're capable of staying here. If it goes down to the wire in the last game against Kerry in Killarney, that's okay with me, as long as we stay there.

"This team has great character, we showed it last weekend (against Tyrone) and we'll fight from here on in."
