NHL 1: Tipp take advantage
March 14, 2010
Tipperary made the most of Galway's second-half fade-out to prevail by 2-17 to 0-14 at Thurles.
The Tribesmen were in the ascendancy in the early part of this match but, worryingly, managed just a single point into the wind in the second half as they suffered a collapse that will have manager John McIntyre pulling out his hair tonight.
The Galway boss expressed concern at his team's tendency to lose focus last weekend and that failing was all too evident in Semple Stadium today.
Lar Corbett and Eoin Kelly were the scorers in chief for the victors, while Seamus Callinan also heaped misery on the Tribesmen.
Galway led 0-13 to 1-5 at the break and looked likely winners, especially after Tipp went 14 minutes without a score at one stage in that opening half.
Ger Farragher had four of the Tribesmen's first-half points and Iarla Tannion was also prominent for John McIntyre's charges.
The match started late due to the NFL match between Tipp and Meath at the same venue and Eoin Kelly's 65 was finished to the net by John O'Brien, answering points from Cyril Donnellan and Aidan Harte.
The goal could have offered Tipp an early platform to build upon, but it was the visitors who bossed the first half.
Noel McGrath had the only point in the opening five minutes of the second half.
McGrath then pounced for a goal and wind-assisted Tipp battled back to lead by 2-13 to 0-14.
They went on to seal the points, completing a memorable double for the Premier County in Thurles.
