Kilmurry's Johnny Daly gets away from Tir Chonaill's Conor Beirne during the All Ireland Club quarter final at Ruislip
A Johnny Daly goal 14 minutes from time proved decisive as Kilmurry-Ibrickane progressed to an AIB All-Ireland club SFC semi-final meeting with Portlaoise in Ruislip yesterday. Kilmurry-Ibrickane 1-4 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-3 In a dour contest, Ian McInerney's free-kick into the square broke kindly for the full forward who made no mistake from no more than five yards out. Despite the poor quality fare, Kilmurry will be glad to have another game under their belt as they prepare for next month's significantly tougher assignment against the Leinster champions. Tir Chonaill Gaels will be bitterly disappointed with their display, although things could have turned out a lot different had Niall Quinn's delightfully lobbed goal in the 10th minute not been controversially disallowed for an illegal handpass in the build-up. Quinn's frustration eventually got the better of him when he received a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Martin McMahon seven minutes after the restart. A late Daly free gave the visitors a 0-3 to 0-2 lead at the interval, but despite their numerical advantage, they struggled to put the Londoners away and had Daly to thank in the end.
